Reconciling remote learning with imputed income for custodial parents

One of the logical, yet seemingly unanticipated, effects COVID-19 pandemic has been exodus parents, primarily mothers, from workplace. An October 2020 Pew study indicates that as many 30% parents reduced work hours or left workforce all together, with a pronounced burden falling on working mothers. This paper examines one possible consequence voluntary under- unemployment by these parents: imputed income for purposes calculating child support. Forecasters predict remote learning is now an option schools will likely turn to again address sorts problems environmental disasters flu outbreaks. Family law practitioners should be prepared deal this likelihood, and ready support their clients.
